Where Ya Been?

I know that this blog hasn’t been updated lately, but I wanted to point you to one that has been. Over at my blog JonathanPearson.net, you can find information on what we’re doing here at CBC as well as what I’m learning along my journey of Christianity.

You can also connect with me with facebook.

Feel free to visit our pastor’s blog as well…BenjaminSmoak.com

I’ll probably start updating this blog more frequently after Christmas.

Down, But Not Out

Down But Not Out Logo

Coming to Pneuma in October!

We’re going to take the month of October to look at some of the emotions that teenagers struggle with and how God is calling them to deal with them. No matter what your teenager is struggling with, you won’t want them to miss these 5 weeks.

That’s each week @ 7 in The Cellar!

Faith Factory Fun

Just wanted to let you know about a story that I heard this past Sunday from a parent…

The parent said that they were waking their child up Sunday morning. When the child woke up, the first thing they said was, “I get to go to Sunday School today.” This statement prompted the father to ask how his child liked the Faith Factory. The child proceeded to tell their dad about all that they had done the week before and how much fun it was.

As the family arrived at church Sunday morning (a little late), the child heard the music and the yelling coming from the Faith Factory and said, “Hurry, I’m missing it!” (Imagine getting the same response from a child about church that you would normally get about a Hannah Montana concert!)

I love hearing stories like that! It’s one of the reasons I do what I do. Children need to know that God loves fun. They need to hear it in their own special language.

“I Can Trust God”

Last Sunday we launched a brand new children’s area and a brand new children’s Sunday School program. The kids (and the older “volunteer” kids) had a lot of fun! I wanted to share a story that I heard this past week from Sunday.

After learning last week in Faith Factory that we can trust God when we’re afraid, it seems like one of our children got a chance to put that into principle into action.

During our “Projects with a Purpose” time last week, Mrs. Jennifer had all of the children make a shield and told them that the shield represented God’s protection on us. This child used the shield as a reminder when it got dark in his room. His parents say that they saw the boy using his shield and saying, “I can trust God when I’m afraid.”

See, what we do does make a difference. Thank you, Mrs. Jennifer, for impacting a life last week! Last Sunday was certainly a win for our Children’s ministry!

Will you bring your child this Sunday so that they can be impacted?

Children Matter

Just wanted to point you to my personal blog over at jonathanpearson.net. I put up a post about why children matter and why children/student ministry is critical. I think you could also look at it from the angle of why Godly parenting is important too!

It Happens Sunday!!

This Sunday, we’re opening up our new children’s area! A new look, a new feel, and a new Sunday morning program will await your child as they enter. Here are a few of the new things happening Sunday…

-The wing that as recently as last week held adult Sunday school classes and the choir, will have a completely new look.

-Sunday school will be like something you’ve probably never seen before.

-Your child will probably ask you to take them back when you pick them up!

-You may hear some loud music…just listen with a smile knowing that children are praising Jesus in a way that they comprehend!

Feel free to stop by and have a look after the service…no matter how old (or young) of a “child” you are!!

Thank you so much for loving children and caring about their ETERNITY!!

What I Wish Parents Knew…

I read this a couple of days ago on a blog and thought it was worth sharing…

What I wish all parents knew about children’s ministry…

~One hour on Sunday is not going to raise your child to be a Godly man or woman.
~We are not a babysitting service for you while you talk to your friends before, during, or after services.
~The life you live on Monday – Saturday in front of your kids comes out in them on Sunday! They tell us!
~You have many more hours in the week to invest in your child than we do! You matter!
~Your view of your church and church staff will come out! I can tell you what you thought of last week’s sermon, what the Pastor wore that you thought was ugly, and what song you wish we didn’t sing!
~Consistency and honesty in your home work wonders! Live our your faith! Your kids know what’s fake!
~Going to church is non-negotiable – no matter what! Ballgames, tryouts, and homework are not excusable! If this thing is important – it’s important – regardless!
~ Taking away church is not a punishment! It’s not even good parenting!
~Taking the time to talk about what we teach at church throughout the week is vital to our ministry!
~ We teach even if your child doesn’t take home a macaroni necklace! Crafts are not fundamental to children’s ministry! Teaching applicable life lessons and the truth of Scripture is most important.
~Your willingness to bring your kid’s friends to church could mean eternal life or death for them!
~Homework is temporary! What we teach is eternal! The Wednesday you spend doing homework instead of being at church may be the day that makes an eternal difference in your child!
~The church and parents are partners. One cannot impact kids without the other!

And that’s what I wish parents knew…

Tonight At Pneuma

Tonight at Pneuma, we’re wrapping up our “Yes, Even You” series. Last week we talked about how God can use Ordinary People and tonight we’re going to talk about how God wants to use Extraordinary Sinners. Here’s a look at what your student will hear tonight:

You Are Who You Are (Acts 22:4)

The truth is, we all sin, need forgiveness, and will never be perfect. The truth is also that we could never earn God’s grace, or do anything to be good enough. We don’t even have the ability to do the Kingdom any good on our own.

He Is Who He Is (Acts 22:6-8)

Christ is the only one that can give us salvation or worth. We’re nothing without Him. A meeting with Christ won’t leave us the same. We can’t be in the presence of Christ and leave the way we entered…He changes us. A true experience with Christ leads to action, not tolerance for our own sin.

We Can Be Who He Wants Us To Be

God’s desire is to use us. He has a plan for us and a purpose for our life. No matter what we’ve done or haven’t done in our past, He can use us. We often don’t live up to our full potential in Christ because we refuse to be disciplined enough to follow Him wherever He leads.

Upcoming and FaithWeaver 8.23.09

Wow! It’s a busy time of the year here at CBC! It’s exciting to be a part of. Over the next few weeks, you’ll see a new children’s area open up, a new Sunday School format for your child, and new opporunities for your family. Don’t miss out on the amazing opportunity God has given you to impact your child! This week, talk to your children about the power of God. Let them know that God usus His power to help us. Remind them that He helps us even when we’re not aware of it.

Take a few minutes and explain a real life example to your child of how God has used His power to help you. How’d this make you feel? Did it change the way you looked at situations in the future?

This is such an important concept for children. Use this week to help them better understand it!
